DStv price and channel showdown — Premium versus Compact versus Family

DStv offers a variety of satellite TV and streaming-only packages to cater to different tastes and affordability profiles.

However, only one package — DStv Premium — offers complete access to its catalogue of SuperSport channels, which broadcast various live sports matches featuring popular South African and international teams.

MultiChoice’s financial results for the year ended 31 March 2024 revealed that its losses had grown from R2.9 billion to R4.1 billion and that it had lost roughly 1.6 million subscribers during the 2023/24 financial year.

It has also become technically insolvent.

Given the popularity of its SuperSport offering and its dominance over sports broadcast rights in South Africa, offering a sports-only DStv package may have been, and could still be, a good move for the broadcaster.

However, MultiChoice is undergoing a takeover from French media giant Canal+, and its CEO and chair, Maxime Saada, has said it has no intentionsof offering a sports-only package.

“Everyone who has tried this has failed,” he said.
Because the current approach is working fantastically.

Please stop already
We all know staff at MyBB get DSTV Premium for R99 a month
No need to keep advertising DSTV here

So this is basically an article where someone wrote down the brochure? What they get paid for that job?

FFS+

Steve Hofmeyr and his supporters destroy their DStv products

Are any other local content endemic language programs only available on Premium and Compact Plus, like KYKNET ( Afrikaans ) ?

I don't think so.

We see you MultiChoice.

Enjoying my IPTV service. Have a good day.

@mylesillidge & @Daniel Puchert , strange comparison without Compact Plus

Not that there's much more to it..

Compact Plus extra sports channels compared to Compact:

SS Variety 1 (these main variety channels give a faster 2nd class repeat of some top sports, but seldom anything live)
SS Variety 2
SS Action (mostly MMA)

As discussed recently in another of these threads - available and still working on Sky, available and still working in New Zealand, who knows how many others

Someone should let Mr. Saada know...
