MultiChoice has detailed its DStv subscription price changes for 2019.

The company has stated that it will “freeze the price” of DStv Premium from 1 April 2019, ensuring customers will pay the same rate for their package.

There is a major issue with Vumatel in Cape Town due to load shedding yet we have a useless report about DSTV prices.

Looks like Premium Price has reached a ceiling. And there's only R290 difference between Premium and Compact Plus, not much room for revenue growth. There's R400 difference to Compact and only a difference of R120 between Compact and Compact Plus.

Looks like the best coarse of action is lower premium prices and upgrade the Compact Plus to Premium

It is simple math and economics 102. The Premium customer base is shrinking so they cannot increase the price there as a retention tool. The number of customers on Compact is increasing without any indication of decreasing, so increase the price there and get more income.

DSTV is offering old Compact subscribers a reduced fee for R290. So what is the real cost of Compact?

Dstv are monopolized thieves. Every year they go out of their way to make it harder and more inconvenient for the consumer, example we could upgrade and downgrade service at any time. Nexg year it was changed to once a month downgrade. Following year it was changed to a scheduled downgrade that could only happen at the end of your billing cycle.
They removed animal planet from compact to coerce consumers to upgrage to the compact plus service.
Dstv premium with pvr function will cost R10728 per year. Madness!!

So it's 15 more buckaroos. The value gap between premium and other packages is just getting more. They should just restructure packages and forget about retaining people on any one package. They claim businesses don't get special rates but that it's simply different packages to suit different needs. Why then not allow everyone to choose what packages suit them?
