Hi,

Just curious : does MNET HD only run (display) through HDMI?

I know you only GET HD through HDMI - but I mean actually display anything. ... like a SD through component.

For example, if you hooked up the HD PVR via component and HDMI - would they both display the identical thing - barring MNET HD?

It only runs through the HDMI output due to HDCP.

But in regards to your specific question, the decoder will output SD signal with the component output, so you will get all the channels barring the HD one.

Just a clarification (maybe only for myself )...
You will receive Channel 170 via RF (A/V) or Component, but they will be in SD. I'm actually surprised how much better the component version of Channel 170 is when compared to the RF version. Sometimes when watching channel 170 on component, I forget that it's not actually HD.

So it does actually output Channel 170.. interesting....

As for not being able to tell its only SD sometimes, thats possibly because DSTV at times are still broadcasting upscaled SD picture on the HD channel, some of the movies in point.. like the James Bond, definitely looked SD but upscaled and widescreen....

No, I actually mean that the SD quality over component is sometimes so good that I forget it's not HD. On the other hand, I support your view that some programs are upscaled versions of DVD programs, particularly some of the miniseries. Up close, these programs are quite grainy, whereas other programs that are HD, don't lose any clarity even at 10cm.
