So I've had my dual view pvr for just over a year. Woke up this morning and it is making a buzzing noise which includes a humming from the wooden plasma stand from the vibration the decoder is making. It's not the hard drive as recording and playing is still fine. I think it is the fan inside the decoder which is giving up. Now my gripe is that if I take it into the agents they normally send away and I get a different machine back and hence lose my recordings. I can't open the decoder up because there are warranty stickers on the case joins. Any ideas? I don't want to lose my recordings if i send it in!

Is it something cool like Guns n Roses "Sweet Child of Mine" or more like Britney with "Oops I did it again"?

If it is the former then I'll buy it off you. If the latter then sorry the problem is all yours.

Like me your buggered, I went and swapped my unit out this morning. what you are hearing is either dirty fans, or the start of HDD failure.

Afraid it sounds nothing like a Top 40 hit :-( I highly doubt it is the hard drive. My decoder has spent it's whole life plugged into my intellipower UPS setup so it has never had any power issues to it's health. I just don't understand why dstv agents don't offer to copy your recordings onto the new decoders hard drive when they swap out. I would PAY for the service! By the way. How many years warranty do these things have? I have a bad feeling they gonna hit me 300 odd bucks for the swap out. I declined the decoder care option.

Saw in another post that they swapped out for free for you. Presume you have the decoder care contract. How much extra is it? What stops me from adding it on this month and then handing my decoder in next month?

Decoder Care Contract: I think you have to wait three months before they will entertain a claim.

Pretty sure the warranty is 12 months so your warranty sounds as though it is finished.

Besides the fee to swop out is about the same as 12 months x DCC anyways.

ROTFLMAO

When I saw the thread title i kinda knew what was coming :D

You know, jokes aside. I don't know anyone who still has their original pvr. Everyone I know has had to send theirs in for a replacement. Can't understand how dstv can make such crap quality.
