hi guys
my wife recently got me a pvr for my birthday, and it was installed a couple of weeks ago.

it works well, with the exception of one small glitch.

at night i always put my tv on standby, and leave the decoder switched on.

when i switch the tv on, the pvr's remote is unresponsive for about two minutes, before i can change channels, change the volume, etc.

the funny thing is, with the tv in standby, i can switch channels with the pvr remote (and actually see the channels changing on the decoder), but as soon as i switch on the tv, it is as if the pvr's remote is dead for a couple of minutes.

any idea why this might be happening?

Stupid buggy multichoice hardware. I bet that the HDCP handshaking takes all the decoder's CPU power away from the bit that interprets remote commands, or something lame like that.

Funny, mine works from the moment I switch both the TV and decoder on

Well it's less than 2 minutes for me, more like 30 seconds, but it still feels pretty long. Also figured it might be something to do with HDCP and my receiver (Sony DH800), but I just live with it.

Maybe this is the problem - I get this too and I have the cheapest HDMI cable I could find. I have heard that the expensive ones have more 'features'.

I reckon you have HCDP handshake issues. Look on the DSTV forum - there has been a lot of talk about that subject

HDPVR2 gives me a snotty flashing red light on the remote - every 3 commands or so. Drives me up the f%&$#*g wall.

I have the same issue, when I start up the TV and receiver the remote doesn't respond for a couple of seconds.
Mind you the same remote is used for the TV and receiver and they remain unaffected. I'm using the MC remote as a universal.

Do you have an expensive HDMI cable?
Sorry for the late reply. I bought the cable for R299 (I didn't know what the avg going rate of it was back then, but then again its a 5 metre cable).

That was about 3 years ago.

Wait, it worked the same way when I used the cable you get with the decoder. I use that one for my PS3 now though
