DSTV refresh rate

I have an SD PVR feeding a Yamaha AV amp to an ACER data projector. All equipment is a few years old except the cable which is good quality and about 3 months old.

For the last few weeks I get screen flickering, very much like you would see on a PC with a CRT and a low refresh rate.

Is it a DSTV thing or is something on the way out?

Sounds like the projector or it's lamp but it could be anything actually. Have you tried plugging something else like a DVD-player directly into the projector?
