So just after DStv announced their 'wow' coup by adding a few junk channels to existing bouquets as an attempt to steal the TopTv launch's impact, I wrote to DStv and asked them how on earth they expected a few extra rubbish channels to stop people from migrating to TopTV.

This is the 'reply':

We appreciate both positive and negative feedback as this gives us insight on how subscribers perceive our service and products.

Below are the monthly subscriptions on the different packages (attached). Please note that there is a surcharge of R65.00 per month for Dual View , PVR and Extra View subscribers, if applicable. These are VAT inclusive.

DStv Premium costs R529.00 per month
DStv Compact costs R232.00 per month
DStv Select 1 costs R148.00 per month
DStv Select 2 costs R148.00 per month
DStv Lite costs R99.00 per month
EasyView Bouquet costs R210.00 per annum or R20.00 per month via debit order. R60.00 discount applicable for 1st year only on new activations
MNET Analogue costs R285.00 per month and is only available via a MNET analogue decoder and not satellite. The analogue signal will soon be changed to digital as per government policy.
The channels are pre-defined and fixed and you cannot select your own channels or the channels that comprise the package.

Offering smaller packages of DStv channels (tiers) / choosing you own channels are not necessarily a more cost-efficient option for MultiChoice and our subscribers. The cost of broadcasting smaller packages to a limited number of subscribers has to date, been higher per package than broadcasting the full bouquet of channels to all our subscribers.

Please note that only one downgrade is allowed per billing cycle.

MultiChoice conducts research on an ongoing basis to test viewer preferences on existing and new television channels. Such research includes looking at content requested by consumers or at channels that succeed abroad.

Our Contact Centre, listed below, is open seven days a week from 07h00 to 23h00 to assist telephonically.

To use any the self service functionality we currently offer, please log onto www.dstv.com and register with us. You can view your active subscription products, reset your decoder, view your balance, pay your account online and view the different DStv Packages.

MultiChoice is an authorised financial services provider. We offer a Decoder Care Contract at R20.00 monthly for Single View Decoders, which covers your decoder against theft (no waiting period), loss or destruction due to fire, lightning or explosion (no waiting period) and technical malfunctioning after three months of activation.

Should you require further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us.

You have to give them credit though. Those were copy/pasted from a few different resources so the person had to have spent at least 6 or 7 minutes putting it together.............

Yes, agreed. One must admire such obvious dedication...!

when will this policy take effect?

well all is possible, send mtn a e-mail took 3 days for me to get my automated responce, telling me someone will look into the matter.

Vote with your wallet and cancel your subs like I did - TopTV is bound to keep improving. At least they provide a bit of choice and price their packages fairly.

Going overseas soon - wil lgive them another month or three to settle, then will look. Certainly, nothing I've seen from DStv so far indicates they intend giving current customers any better value for money. Going to ignore us and keep milking our pockets.

I'm happy with the Vuzu channel coz of the Clipz program.
As for SummitTV,TCM and MStars I don't really use them but at least 4 channels I don't have to skip when browsing.

To be honest, I'm almost at the stage where I'd cancel DStv and rather get a contract at a decent video store - then hire and watch what you want, when you want.

Guys, DSTV is an absolute luxury. If you don't want to pay, cancel it. It is that simple.
