My cousin gets SS1 and SS2 on her Walka for R36 pm. My Walka does not get a signal in Knysna where I live. If I want to watch rugby or cricket I have to pay over R600 pm for the premium package. The only other option is to pay Vodacom R59 pm for a live streaming contract which gives me 180 minutes viewing per month. That is less than 4 rugby matches or 1 T20 cricket match. When I asked Multichoice if they would kindly refund me the R649 I paid for the Walka which is lying idly in a cupboard, they referred me to their terms and conditions. So to watch sports now I either pay R600 pm or drive to Cape Town to watch on my Walka which my cousin gets for R36. Ripoff or what?

Victor

No, you build a house in the sea then complain because it is constantly wet? Why didn't you check for signal? If someone said it would get it in writing before you buy it and sue them if it doesn't work. Let the buyer beware! It is up to you to check that it will work.

Why do you equate your perceived rip-off with a comparison to your cousin? Does he/she live in Knysna? If so, did you purchase the device on this premise? I suspect he/she does not live in Knysna, otherwise you would not need a drive to Cape Town to get a signal. If so, is there any area in Knysna that has a DVB signal? If not, why did you purchase it?

CPA? Certainly they can't point you to their terms and conditions and think they'll get away from the CPA?

It cost me R11.00 to watch a game at the local pub. I buy 1 cold drink and take my own pretzels. It it ideal no. But it is a hell of a lot cheaper than the DSTV subscription

They should kick you out for that.

Sneak in a pap sak next time and watch for free.

DSTV ripoff??

More like consumer idiocy in this particular case

This is exactly the same as buying a cellphone while living in Putsonderwater then complaining that the service provider is ripping you off by not providing you with a signal.

The only difference is GSM vs DVB-H (in this case)

Putsonderwater used as example, have no idea if they have cellphone coverage :)

we pay R695 but me and my brother split the cost so R350 is not to bad , but no way in hell i would pay 700 on my own

OK, i get the criticism aimed at him for not checking the signal and whether it works or not. As I understand it, he tried to return the device and they refused(Can't understand why if you have a receipt?). But the only way for him to check whether it works or not was to buy the thing in the first place.

He didn't say whether he bought it in Knysna or Cape Town. He could have asked the rep in Knysna and if they said it did work and showed it to him ..........

first of DSTV prices sure are a rip off hundreds of threads about that, but if you want to watch rugby well they prety much the nly ones that show it on tv.
as for your walka
first of all did you check if Knysna in the dvb-h signal coverage area? or did the salesperson confirm this
secondly did you buy it directly from Multichoice - pointless calling monochoice if you bought it somewhere else you need to return it to the store, if its been less the a few (7 or 14 depending on store) days most places take it back not much questions asked.

Guys, OP is a one-hit-wonder, if he was really that vested in our advice his/her post count would have moved up from 1. Without all the facts we are merely speculating in this thread - hence my initial post.

You forget that your cousin is also paying the premium package, otherwise he/she would not get the SS1 and SS2 on the Walka. Any case a waste of money in my opinion (that is DSTV, not sport).

I get SS1, SS2, SS3 and SS4 on my drifta without any premium package.

EDIT:

Where does OP mention the cousin is paying for the premium package
