Slightly off the topic but I have been trying in vain to get DSTV Select from Vodacom. I have never seen such bad service and red tape in my life (ok, excluding Telkom and licencing departments

. I have spend several hours on the telephone between Vodacom and Multichoice, that excludes visiting Vodashop twice, phoning them about 7 times, filling out long forms, submitting bank statements, copies of salary slips, etc.
I have been a Premium DSTV subscriber for > 10 years until 4 days ago. As I do not have a lot of time to watch TV, I cancelled the contract telephonically and it was done very quickly.
I thought to change to DSTV Select will be a matter of minutes! HOW WRONG I WAS!
Vodacom is one of the worst companies 'partnering' with Multichoice on this!. Without mentioning any names, but even Vodacom's own staff told me that the processes are not working 100% because of communication gaps between Vodacom and Multichoice. The consultant at Vodashop even told me that it will take about a month to activate!
Today, Vodashop told me that the 'system is down' and they have not been able to activate any DSTV Select customers for the past number of days! When I phoned Multichoice, they told me that they are waiting for Vodacom and Vodacom said they arte waiting for Multichoice.
I bought over a Dual View decoder from a friend of mine 2 years ago when he upgraded to PVR. I have been using that for the past 2 years on DSTV Premium without any problems. Vodacom told me that Multichoice said that the decoder I was using, is not in my name and they can't do the activation of DSTV Select (for Vodacom)! Multichoice did not have any problems giving me a signal for 2 years and now this! They asked for a letter from the previous owner, copy of his id, my id which I faxed through this morning. Silence! Nothing happening. I phoned Vodacom, Vodashop, Vodacom DSTV section, Multichoice DSTV Select, Multichoice Premium. To cut a long story short, now Multichoice, they need 2 (TWO) letters; one from the previous owner selling and one from me accepting. My letter had all our details on ONE letter it stating him as the seller (fully signed by him) and my as the buyer (fully signed) with all copies of id of myself and himself. That was not good enough!
Letter's wording:
Addresses....Herewith I, Mr X (id 123456789) confirms that I have sold my DSTV decoder model xxxxx serial number yyyyyyyy to Mr Y (id 0987654321) at the beginning of 2006 when i purchased a PVR.
Yours faithfully
signed (he signed) signed (I signed)
Mr X (seller) + date Mr Y (Buyer)
Still not enough!
If all is well, this will take 3 working days to do!
I can't believe this red tape! It is easier to buy a house or a car! You must have seen the contract I have to fill out (the same contract as for a cell phone - it even said "Airtime contract" at the top). I had to get credit approval (for a pre-paid DSTV service???)
So my advice is, do NOT even think of entering into the DSTV Select agreement with Vodacom/Vodashop! The do not know how to provide a descent and efficient service!
I have phoned Multichoice this afternoon to reactivate my old DTSV Premium which was done in seconds!
I'll see how it goes later! I am sitting back on my chair now at the office to get my blood pressure down!
Regards
