Hey All,

I have recently moved into a new place, had my single view DSTV dish and decoder installed and now due to winter, want to run an additional antenna point to the bedroom and was wondering if I can do this myself as I was quoted R480.00 for a contractor to do this.

If I can do this myself, which I'm sure is possible, what 'equipment' (cables & connectors) would I need to get?

Any advise will help...

What a ripoff. Don't know the exact price for all of the stuff you will need, and there's a lot of ways to do this, one of them will have you require:
1. Some coaxial cable
2. Some isolation tape
3. A 1x male to 2x female F-connector plug splitter (either the BPAS2 or the BPAS2F)
4. Some male F-connectors

Buy a short coaxial cable (or make one yourself) to run from the LNB to the splitter that you will use. It needs to be a male F-connector to male F-connector (unless you use the BPAS2, then it can be open-ended at one side). Connect the cable to the LNB and run it to the splitter (if it's the BPAS2F you will need to insulate it well). Insert your currently used cable into one of the splitter's out-points. Lay a new cable from the bedroom to the splitter with both ends having a male F-connector.

Here's a great guide to connecting F-connectors.

Honestly, even that is an unnecessary cost.

Just get yourself a bog-standard 3-way TV splitter (for around R20) and split it just before the TV with a cable headed to the bedroom. Job done.

+1 on that, also if your current tv only uses the AV inputs, you dont even need the spliter just run the cable out of the decoder staight to your bedroom

o_O

Didn't think of that. Probably because my mind's still fresh on running another coax for the twin LNB I just bought for my HDPVR.

+1 on above posts.
