I purchased an old decoder from a guy when he upgrade to a HD PVR. I went to the Multichoice agency in Pretoria central to get a smartcard but was told I first need to find the guy I bought the decoder from and get him to sign a form. I'd have no problem doing this except that I have no idea how to get hold of the guy again.

Is there seriously no way I can get a new smartcard from multichoice for the decoder?

You can go to the Police station & get an affidavit stating that you purchased the decoder or got it free from the previous owner, take that along with the Ownership transfer form and they should be able to put it on your name..

As for the Smart Card, they not going to give it for free, you'll have to pay around R500, so not worth it, you can buy a new decoder + smart card for that price and it will save you the trouble of going to the police station..

I went through the same mission a while back - I was given a spare DSD 1110 decoder by my brother-in-law. took to my local DSTV store (after sitting for ages on the phone only to be told they cannot do it over the phone). At the store I was told I need to bring in the decoder with the original smartcard, my old smartcard, copy of the sales document (just a document that says I sell this decoder to... blah) and a copy of the sellers ID and my ID - FOR *** SAKE.

It took me ages to get all this together and I finally got it done after a lot of searching and scanning and copying - so be prepared

i got one from a member on this forum when i bought a cell phone from him :)
took about 15mins on the phone to get the smartcard transfered to my name iirc
no hassles or extra costs
think i emailed them a letter tho....
