The latest version of the DSTV stream app dropped onto my Samsung Smart TV on August 20. Version 3.1.2 I think. The app is clearly new but I cannot stream either live or catch up. It gives the whoops message and then opens the internet browser and goes to a DStv leanback app website.

I’ve uninstalled reinstalled, logged out logged in. Deleted old linked devices and still no luck.

I’ve seen no indication online of other people experiencing an issue since the update. It’s not an account issue as I can still stream on the app on my iPad.

And ideas?

DSTV is truly proudly and typically South African under the ANC. Took a POS app that was riddled with bugs, and low and behold updated it to make it worse. And for this, they will happily increase prices. FFS.

How do you stop the app from updating? I see my box seems to update stuff by itself as well. Not that I have tried to go through the settings to see if there is an option to switch off auto updates.

That is a double edged sword, you stop stuff updating, and it is not long before stuff stops working. DSTV are fond of "obsoleting" older app versions.

Same issue by us, also after the update to 3.1.2. No live & no on-demand - Whoops! Your post is the 1st I actually came across after looking for reasons online past couple days. Will be reporting to dstv now, obvs an app issue.

Hi Ripple

Yes, there is nothing else online about this issue which is a bit weird. Do you use pihole by any chance? I’ve been thinking about it today and wondering about what makes my setup unique.

It’s not pihole if anyone is interested.

Hi Ripple

Did you manage to log the fault?

dstv.stream on Linux (Ubuntu etc.) has just been fixed, after another looong screw up, so a fix for the app could come soon. Or not

Thank you, Brian. Yes, holding thumbs that someone somewhere is working on it.

How must a person log the fault? This is very frustrating. The app worked much better before the March update

Very difficult to get anything logged with any outcome value at DStv. You could try phoning their call centre and insisting on a supervisor, then a manager, but take some tranquilizers first.

An update for those interested.

I have been told by DSTV that I need to contact Samsung as the issue lies with the TV's OS and not the app.

It is now being escalated to their AV team...will keep you updated
