So I re-enabled my DSTV just to be able to watch some Olympics. During this period my SO remarked that it was nice to be able to watch the e News channel as well... so rather than killing the subscription again I thought I'd look into a downgrade.

Of course, the minimum bouquet needed for e News channel is R260 per month, and comes with so much other crap I'm really not interested in - since I assume I can't just use a DSTV Mobile package on my PVR?

Multichoice, you suck.

Look, everyone here is going to agree with you, but this is probably the 10000th thread on myBB saying exactly the same thing...

I know.
I still need to rant somewhere, and it's not fair ranting at their call center people as they have no control over things... I guess I'm hoping maybe someone somewhere at monochoice will read and the penny will drop.

Why would it? They're making more than enough from premium subscribers, why would they make a better entry-level package and risk losing some of that income?

Easy - you are forbidden to watch DStv from now on. Switch it off and forget about it.

bend over and take it quietly like the other subscribers. no one will think any less of you. vaseline optional.

Why does she want to watch news all day? She knows they mostly repeat, right?

Not all day, but she wants to be able to watch for half an hour a night as and when she gets time, which is generally not at the 7pm slot.

Burns my ass to pay R300pm for that. :p

I also think multi choice sucks in the fact that you cant customize your own package. Why can't i pay R100 for just 10 of my favorite channel, or even 4 channels: BBC (top gear) SS3 and 4 (soccer) NatGeo, MM2 and CN for the kids.

Instead, i must pay R300 for 100 dumb channels lol :D

same here. and i have extra view on top of it, cause the SO wants to watch food channel and i watch the sport.

I just assume that I can't watch it via a real TV.

You can probably find a way to but at 320x240, do you want to? Unless you have a 30cm TV, in which case it might not look too bad.

Because if you could, a large number of subscribers would probably downgrade their packages. And considering that Naspers is a public company, a drop in revenue of that size would not look good on their financial statements. Corporates are all about the bottom line: they have investors who demand a return for their money.

Lastly, from what I know, most pay TV operators internationally work on the same model: lots of channels even though you only watch a handful. Granted, they might be comparatively cheaper than DSTV in some cases but most often you get lots of junk along with what you really want.
