hi there

Been looking @ getting a Dstv Walka but wanted to know from people who have used it.

How's the video quality ?
Battery life?
Buffer's alot ?
Worthwhile buying 1 ?
is the Mnet channel same as the Stateliness Mnet channel ? same programs?
Also i see Incredible Connection stores don't have stock @ all ..... seems to be a popular product

t.i.a

Well, I wanted to go have a look at one of these at Incredible Connection because they've got them for R 599.95, but when I phoned they said that none of the demo units were subscribed to DSTV. Anyone seen one working?

What's quality/reception like? And screen size, is 3.5" too small?

3.5" is tiny

Does this device have a USB interface for a PC, or any other external interface, or 3.5" screen only?
Thanks.

I got one today, so here's a short, incomplete review.

Kalahari was great. From clicking 'order' to having it in my hand in under 18 hours, for R 599 all inc. **** you Incredible Con, you won't compete on price, you lose the sale. Simple.

3.5" is big enough.
Resolution is not good enough (especially when trying to read the cricket score.)
The stand works but I'm not convinced yet.
Controls are a bit fiddly.
The antenna needs the steady hands of a bomb tech to avoid bending it. We'll see how long that lasts, and if Monochoice carries spares.
Reception is good - I get five bars out of five upstairs, and 3 bars downstairs, even though I'm just outside the pink area on the coverage map.
No pouch.

The USB seems to be for charging and firmware upgrades only.

Battery life, outdoor performance, etc. Haven't tested.

All in all, it's OK, and it'll do the job it was bought for, although I'd have liked more pixels, but hey, that's the standard, so it's not MC's ****-up, it's the standard setter's ****-up.

Just got one as a Xmas gift :)

Roughly what I'd expected.

Poor build quality.
Poor picture quality(blocky & low fps).
Average audio quality(depends on choice of channels).
Brilliant reception(in the parts of PE I have used in past 2 days).
Good battery life(in excess of 2hrs)
Light & compact.

Quite happy with it so far :)

Yips will wait for a newer / upgraded version .

V2 may have better build quality, but picture quality & low frame rate is limitation of the DVB-H standard & will be no better unless they adopt a completely new digital broadcast standard(unlikely)...

Can you use the walka through USB on your computer like the normal device?

I went looking for a DStv Walka today (Tyger Valley Centre).

DionWired – After standing around the glass case for at least 8-10 minutes I had to search for someone to assist me. All the clerks were moving around swiftly through the aisles. But the store was almost empty. Eventually I had to stop one and ask for help. R600.00 and they will look up your tv license but not assist with activation.

Game – After walking up and down and making eye contact with assistants, nobody was willing to ask if I needed assistance. I left after 10 minutes and didn’t expect anything better from them anyways. R600.00

Incredible Connection – I was hardly through the door and there was someone willing to help. R649.00 they will look up your tv license but not assist with activation.
So why would I bother buying from any of them if I can go to Multichoice, buy and activate it there in one shot?

A work colleague tried to buy a Walka yesterday from Game (on special R549), the usual response...NO Stock (until next week when the special is over). Good thing he phoned ahead (as I suggested to him).

I got mine from Multichoice a while back, pretty happy with it.
