I don't know if this has been mentioned somewhere, and if it has, please accept my apologies.
I noticed that some movies on the Mnet and Movie Magic channels are broadcast in a "wider than screen" format.
Now, I'm not talking about the black borders at the top and bottom, but actually the fact that the movie seems to be "zoomed in".
On a normal, non-widescreen TV, the movie Jumper yesterday had part of the opening credits cut off. You could see there were first names there, but only the surnames were visible due to a part of the screen on the side not being shown.
I've noticed this with many movies recently, where it would be so bad that two people on the opposite sides of the screen would be talking and that you could only see their arms! And I own a digital copy of the movie where I can go to the same scene and see their actual faces.
Perhaps there is some setting on the decoder that I am not aware of, but it has gotten so bad that I refuse to watch a movie on DSTV as long as this problem remains, I mean, you are missing large chunks of the picture this way.
I would say that DSTV should just broadcast the movies with the black borders so that those with widescreen TV's will benefit and those without would at least still be able to see the entire screen and not some chopped up version of it. I mean, even with a widescreen TV the zoomed in state of the movies would be crap?
What do you guys think?
