Hey guys.

Has anyone been able to get their DSTV working with the Windows media interface?
If so what tv/sattelite card did you use?
How do you change channels for viewing and recording, or is this only possible using the dstv remote?

Any comments would be appreciated.

hi. i'm not sure that's possible. DSTV's signal is encrypted, and when it reaches your DSTV decoder, the signal is decrypted so that you can view the content. if you want to receive digital transmissions, you need to purchase a digital tv-tuner card. even so, this will not pick up DSTV, for a number of reasons: (1) DSTV's signal is encrypted(and you need to pay for DSTV) and the digital tv-tuner card will only pick up free-to-air channels(unencrypted); (2) DSTV's signal is in the 11000Mhz range, whereas the digital tv-tuner can only pick up in the range of about 2500Mhz at most. the normal tv-tuner cards are analogue and can only pick up the free local analogue channels like SABC and etv. There is just no way around this. sI stand under correction, but DSTV cannot be picked up on your pc. unless you want to view DSTV via streaming video, you can go to www.dstvbroadband.com. you need to be a subscriber of DSTV to view this and will need to enter your DSTV customer details on the site. there are apps to capture streaming video but this is illegal and you will do so at your own risk. hope this helps.

I'm Registering to dstvbroadband and i'm not sure how to get my Customer Number, so how do I get it?

thx

You phone multichoice, give them your smartcard number and ask them what your customer number is ;)

you bumped a 41 minute old thread?

just keep your DSTV decoder and feed the output from your DSTV decoder into the media centre. Yes, you will still have to change channels using your DSTV remote.... unless you can find a universal remote that you can train to the DSTV decoder.

A commonly used card for media centers in South Africa is the Hauppage series of cards.

If you have an older DSTV card, you could use it in a PC card (DVB-S standard) tuner.. You wouldn't have to use any DSTV equipment.

Bought a tv card with MCE remote from here: www.mceguide.co.za (you can buy a tv card from most online stores). The card comes with infrared eyes that can change channels on the decoder. Use the RCA (white, red and yellow) connections from the DSTV decoder to the TV card and setup your Media Center with the guide as on website above. Don't know if this is what you had in mind.
