Good day one and all. I'm New to "Mybroadband". Read a few posts but never actually posted.

I have a situation where we live on small holding with my in-laws... Yes, I know, I'm blessed. We want to setup xtraview in their newly build cottage. This cottage is little less than 100m from the house where the main DStv setup is. How would one wire up this setup. Do I need to run 2 cables too the cottage or is it just one. I've heard another dish may need to be installed.

If someone could give me a simple wiring diagram or explication. It would be highly appreciated. Blessings hope you have had a merry Christmas.

Depending on the existing installation, two cables may be needed..

The smart lnb's are capable of sending the heartbeat via the lnb, which means only a single cable is needed for the flatlet..

If you have an older lnb installed, two cables will be required.. one from lnb to decoder in flat and the other between the two decoders..

You will need to tell us everything about your existing DStv equipment for a more concise answer..

How do I know if it has a smart LNB? We currently it's an exorer with standard setup... I think. And the cottage has zero setup.

Would this be the correct setup at the decoder?

Just a few point to consider
1 you will need a second Explora or one on the new HD model decoders to be able to send and receive the heart beat signal via a smart lnb
2 100 m is probably outside the limit you will be able to successfully connect the hear beat between the 2 decoders
3 If you can find a spot halfway between the main house and the cottage to mount a communal dish with a SLNB you may, please note I say may, just get away with sending the HB via the lnb.

I have done this on a farm outside Montagu
The RF cable was 85m and in a conduit
The cottage had its own dish
I used a heartbeat generator purchased from Space TV and it worked first time
The generator is powered from the primary receiver

Thats pretty cool

So both decoders are the explora 2A. I'm in Port elizabeth so not sure where I'll find the HB generator. But I'll give it a go as I've got the cable. I'll let you k ow as soon as I can get a chance thanks guys really appreciate the advise.

OK so it's all working.

Setup components:
A) 2x explora 2A (1 x primary & 1x xtraview)
B) SMART lnb
C) 100m of coaxial cable

So the primary was all setup and working. The Xtraview was also setup as a xtraview in the past.

So I just plugged coaxial into Smart LNB ran it to the flatlet plugged coaxial into Xtraview Explora, and walla it worked. Well some errors where cleared online. But all is good. Thanks for the help.
