Hi Guys,

My father asked me if I could assist him with running the cables and configuring a second TV in his house so that he may get xtraview. He has the age old battle of wanting to watch sport and fighting over the controller lol.

I have searched the forum regarding DSTV xtraview installations etc and still feel somewhat unsure on how to install this.

Firstly to explain the setup:
80cm dish with Smart LNB - 4 port
TV1 - DSTV explora Model 2A
TV2 - DSTV DECODER Model 4S

Currently there is one cable running to the explora(unicable in) and this has been enabled for recording function etc.

1. To my understanding would I need to pull another cable from the dish to the explorer (RF in) and then run a second cable from the explora(RF OUT) to the other decoder(RF IN)?

2. Am I incorrect and are there more cables that need to be run? For example another cable from the TV2 decoder to the smart LNB on the dish?

3. Are the 2 decoders compatible?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

I found this diagram is this correct?
And if so what splitter would be recommended?

LNB unicable output to Explora
LNB legacy output to 4S
Cable from RF out on Explora to RF out on 4S

That is all

Phone MC and ask for Xtraview dept. They are clued up, unlike the general help assistants

The Explora will auto-detect the RF out, the 4S you might have to choose on the Xtraview menu

You are a machine! So 2 cables to be run one from explorer and one from the dish to the 4s. That's pretty straight forward.

I will. Definetely do so, thank you so much for simplifying this for me!

Sorry for the bump, luckily it's not too old.

I bought a second 2A Explora (2 of the exact same model I have now).

I need to install the second one myself. On the Smart LNB (the new blue ones) there is only one cable leaving the dish towards the decoder. Do I now just connect a second cable to the LNB and run that cable straight to the second decoder? There doesn't seem to be any splitter boxes or anything I can see.

One cable from the Smart LNB to the decoder and another cable between the two RF ports of the decoders

So I just need to add one single cable between the RF out and RF in on the second decoder?
Yes, and make sure you've indicated in the settings of each decoder whether you've plugged into out or in.

There are talks that its possible to run in ExtraView without the heartbeat cable, but I broke open my Explora's before I could try it out (I needed the hard drives! :p )

Will give it a shot. Thank you!

found this:

Requires no heartbeat cable when
linked to another DStv Explora 2 in
an XtraView installation using a DStv
Smart LNB. This results in an easier
XtraView installation and setup.
Only requires heartbeat cable to older
decoders linked in XtraView or when
installed without a DStv Smart LNB

So seems you're 100% correct. Thank you very very much.

Can anyone help me with my installation i have an explora 1 + explora 2 and dstv model 5s decoders. Signal cables to all decoders comes from smart lnb A,B,C unicable ports and user band settings is correct. I have a comms cable between the 2 exploras with a heartbeat amplifier to 2 additional tv's but the model 5s keeps showing extra view comms error, i understand that i need a diplexer but can someone draw me a simple wiring diagram on the connection to get rid of the error please

With two exploras? would he not just have two cables running from the smart LNB to each of the Uniports in on the Exploras?

You don't need the heartbeat cable, so the two exploras don't need to be connected to one another (as it is all done in the smart lnb).

This is how I have my setup with my two exploras

Unless the new explora can receive signal from the dish and pass it through the RF output to the other decoder

My Exploras are off the first generation so they may have changed now.

I also had the first gen Exploras, Remember the Smart LNB didn't exist when the first Explora were launched (I bought mine the day it launched) - it came with a multiswitch. With those you had to have the heartbeat (to my knowledge at least).
