Dual Boot on Seperate SATA Drives

Hi all, I have to separate SATA drives and have Win XP PRO on each one of them, My problem is that I'm trying to find out how I can dual boot into each drive when needed, take note I'm not partitioning the drives! so I need to boot from either XP or XP1 I'm using BootItNG so it shows up the boot option :confused: WinXP and WinXP1 now the problem is that when I click on WinXP1 drive to boot from it still boots up the WinXP Strange but true, I think that BootItNG allows you to boot up several Drives but I'm not sure here what to do...Is there maybe a simpler way of doing it?...Many thanks!
 
Not sure how BootIt NG works, but you can boot from diff drives with XP's built in boot manager. Upon installation XP will detect other installations on other drives and automatically create the options for you. Check out the boot.ini file
 
Why on earth would you want to run XP Pro twice on the same machine? I mean, they're the same OS !

Glad you noticed! lol...Indeed they are but I do a lot of Program reviews and Beta testing! so if anything should go wrong I have my emergency disc to work with! And believe me things can go wrong!!!

I wrote a review on BootItNG but that was about 3 years ago about partitioning programs but never used it to boot individual drives:( and have forgotten as I've never really used it since..Anyway I think it's a super program to work with...Thanks! :)

Well that makes sense.. sort off! I also do quite a bit of testing on other OS's, but I use VM Ware, works great. I run Vista Ultimate 64bit as my primary OS, and I run Ubuntu 7.10, Win XP Pro, Win XP Home - all on the same PC just as virtual machines. All my testing is done within Windows, maybe you should try that :cool:

I have VMware and use it sometimes I run 98,Vista, 2000 pro as well as XP, but just wanted to test to also see whether BootIt indeed boots 2 seperate drives with the same OS I know it does but can't figure out!...:VMware is awesome! got it as a gift for Program reviews,...My biggest problem is that I'm running onboard sound and graphics and when it comes to Vista it does not recognise these items...

Try pressing F8 after starting your system. On most mobos it'll bring up your drive selection window. Select the HDD with the OS you want and as long as it's a Windows XP drive it'll boot up.

If F8 doesn't work, check your mobo manual for the shortcut key.

notepad C:\boot.ini add in your other entry and away you go?

Thanks but only shows up as one Win XP entry also I cannot use my wirelessk/board and have to use the norm...k/board:)
