So I'd like to give Ubuntu a go but its just occured to me that openrouter doesn't run on Linux (grrr @ MrBeep). So I reckon a dual boot system will have to do.

My hard drive already has two ntfs partitions so I'm wandering if it'll work if I just install Ubuntu to the partition that doesn't have windows on it.

yup

Choose the custom option when it gets to paritioning in the install, select the spare drive, and if it asks you for a mount point just type--> /

Its not hard to setup at all.

Great. Thanks. I'm going to give it a go this afternoon.

After much effing around trying to install Ubuntu 8 I decided to install feisty instead. Installed with no problems at all and best of all I've got openrouter running just fine with wine, also with no problems at all.

Pretty stoked right now. I'm thinking if I can get my better half to take the time to get used to Ubuntu it may just be bye-bye Windows. :D

Welcome to the dark side... we have cookies!

K, nm. It works if I prefix the command with gksudo whatever that is.

Yep I'm trying to follow those instructions but I'm not getting very far because I get "deb command not found message".

Any suggestions?

What you are doing is trying to update the lists of software you can install through which every packet manager you prefer. Just above that place that says "deb" you get this link.

(Help for this available at AddingRepositoriesHowto)

Yep thanks. That link seems to be applicable to a different version of ubuntu though. Got it figured out anyway. Just need to stop off at engen for some international bandwidth just now. Looking forward to getting everything I need set up on this.
