Dual Citizenship Question.

Update on this:

In November I received an SMS informing me that my application for Naturalisation had been finalised. Which I found a bit odd, so I got the lawyers to follow up, and they indeed confirmed that my 2016 application had finally been approved.

This morning I got a call from DHA informing me that an Induction ceremony is being held this week. This is the part where they teach you about ZA, make you learn the national anthem, etc.

Once this is done, then you do the oath of allegiance at a Naturalisation Ceremony, which the DHA Minister has to chair, and then only do you get the paperwork for the new ID number, passport, etc.
 
The induction ceremony is a joke. A powerpoint presentation which was probably created for DHA staff to sensitise them to the problems of 'foreign nationals'.

Beware the process where they 'record your attendance'. They will likely check your presence on a huge fan-fold print out and then again by passing a book around. In my case, despite being crossed off the printout outside the building and being recorded in the attendance register inside the auditorium they used, they told me later that as I had not attended to induction I could not sign the Oath! I went ballistic.

Make sure you record your own details in the register, don't let someone drafted from the other applicants do it for you! Take photos and use Google to track your location. No I'm not joking.

If you are in Gauteng you will likely sign the Oath at DHA Ga Rankuwa.

When Gigaba was still there (he who made the induction ceremony) they held it maybe once a year at a expensive conference centre, like Birchwoods in JHB. Those ceremonies were intended to be the 'whole shebang' but after he left and they realised how much money they were wasting, they seem to have moved it to DHA offices.
 
The ceremony was held in a boardroom at DHA Barrack St.

No minister present, but a Senior Provincial Manager did the honours.

From the sounds of it, it seems they will be doing these on a more regular basis from now on.

I know, there was a gent who had applied in 2011 and still waiting...

Only caveat with DHA springing this on me now is that I have two overseas trip in the next couple of months, which means holding up the paperwork until June 1st. So in effect this means that I won't be getting a new ID & passport until mid-August :cautious:
 
I think the Smart ID was only rolled out in 2013 and then to a limited group. I tried the SAHRC route and their conduct was unprofessional and an embarrassment. Filed a complaint against them with the PP and now gone directly to the Equality Court.

If the case is successful, DHA will be forced to open the online portal to all citizens, not just native born ones! you can then apply online and avoid visiting their over-crowded offices.
 
after the C19 delays, I got a Temp ID in August, and finally got my passport today.

I will only be getting my ID book in 2 months' time, since I wasn't allowed to apply for one during Lockdown.
