Dual Core and Quad Core

Whats the exact difference between a quad core and normal porcesser here gents, and i know the dual core is out, but is there a quad core out yet? And if so how much is something like that going for these days?

If your programs can utilise it, a big difference, or if you do REALLY extremely heavy multitasking it would be good for system responsiveness...

it should be just Core 2 Quad, not Quadro...

btw, if i'm not mistaken, in Q3 this year, the Q6600 is going to cost as much as an E6600 costs today...

If you're trying to get better performance in a single application then you can forget about it in most cases.
There aren't many desktop applications that *really* take advantage of multi processors due to the complexity of coding multi-threaded applications.
Even the apps that are multithreaded often only offload a few miscellaneous tasks into other threads and still have a single thread that does most of the work.
Multi-threaded apps are a nightmare to code and in a lot of cases it isn't possible or feasible to do.

However if you're a serious power user who likes to run several CPU intensive applications at the same time then you will benefit from more cores/processors.

Yes, there are only a few that really make use of it. Video encoding and apps like that tend to work well with multiple cores. Also high processing apps like Photoshop have additions to make use of extra cores.

In Intels case yes, the quad core is just a chip with 2 dual cores inside. In AMD's case, the Quad core is a real quad core (but it's not out yet)
