Dual Screen setup for home-pc overkill?

Depends entirely on your needs.

Also back in the day when 17" was the defacto screen size dual screens were a must.

These days though, it is not the case with 16:10 24" monitors that can display two full sized A4 documents side by side without zooming.

I had 2x Dell 24" monitors and ended up selling the 2nd as it was off 99.9% of the time. When it was on my neck got sore from turning my head all the time lol. Like I said on a 16:10 24" and up monitor your can have two decently sized windows open on each side of the screen which worked better for me.

You also get ultra wide screen 29" 21:9 screens now which would be far better than 2 screens IMO.

Edit: Like this. Would be great for gaming and also for productivity. As much screen real estate as two separate monitors. You can even have different input sources for each side of monitor.

That looks too wide. I like to surround myself with the screens so I don't have to move around to see them.

I've got my main screen directly in front and the other about 45 degrees to the main. My desk is a L-shaped.

21:9 aspect ratio is only OK for productivity, but certainly not for anything other than that, because images would be stretched out of proportion or you'll have massive black bars on the sides.
I prefer a single 2560x1600 screen over 2x 23" (1920x1080) monitors, but unfortunately it costs like what 4-8x of a single 23" monitor.

OK, got everything setup with the second monitor using a HDMI -> HDMI -> Mini-DP converter.
Everything has been running swimmingly so far, haven't played any games but will start up SWTOR or AC4 a little later tonight.

Thanks for all your input guys :)
Really came in handy :D

Had 3, now 2... perfect for home use.

Have 3 at the moment...

Will be downsizing to 2 monitors shortly, and the 3rd will be used for something else. Found myself not really using more than 2 of them at home.

I am keen on the setup like Hugh Jackman in the movie Swordfish ...

Do you know what are the physical specifications for this type of setup and the cost ?
