So, I took out two dual sim's on 2 of my contracts on Tuesday. Its now two days later, sim cards are still not active on the network. 808 cant help, activations call centre (0831239622) cant help. Head Office (011 9123000) could not help because - wait for it - most of the supervisors went to the CEO roadshow... The Clearwater Mall MTN store is (shall we say) dissapointing to deal with despite being referred to 808 and/or the activations line if I needed more help after paying for the two sim cards.

Suffice to say all of these service points kept pointing me to the other one to help...

Still with no luck, some I spoke to don't even know what I am talking about when wanting to activate my dual sim card(s)...

So, anyone know anyone at MTN I can ask to help me sort this?

If trying to activate dual call on the 50GB not taken out on BF/CM, don't waste your time. T's and C's don't allow it.

If it's BF/CM deal, its probably a RICA issue. Go back to the store and restart the RICA process, get them to log a query. Wait 3 days, phone activations, give reference number and get an escalation done with activations.

Update with more questions:

Things to know:
I have x3 contracts, my number is the main number on my profile with another 2 lines. I have taken dual calling on the other 2 numbers which my kids use. Got dual calling to allow them to take cheaper cellphones to school but keep 1 number for each of them without having to topup x4 numbers all the time. That was the thinking anyway.

1) both sim cards are now active which is great
2) each sim now has its own cellphone number - should it be like that?
3) if I call from the 2nd number (dual sim number) to another phone it does not show the main number as the caller ID, the caller ID shows the secondary number - should it be like that?
4) if I call the main number it does not redirect to the second phone where the dual sim is in, it goes to voicemail. Its not what I wanted. I understood the 2nd phone with the dual sim in would ring if the first one does not answer... should it be like that?
5) where does it use minutes and data from? I have used data and made calls from both the secondary sim's. After I made calls and used data the main numbers' data and minutes stayed the same - where does it take minutes and data from?

The last point is most confusing though. Who is paying for the minutes and the data on the dual sim cards?

Would appreciate if anyone who has dual calling can tell me how this works because MTN seems not to know how to set up or how dual calling works on their network...

So Ive got dual sim and I agree - MTN staff/call centers are incompetent.

As per my experience :

2. Yes, correct. When logged into mtn website it shows different number. And when using secondary Sim, it uses different number
3. Yes
4. Theoretically yes. But my experience it didn't . Although via online profile it shows something like 'secondary divert'. You could possibly set up call divert yourself since you have a bonus 10k MTN minutes - if you really want the sim to divert after no answer.
5. Uses the 50Gb
Last q- the usage depletes the primary sim

Hope that helps

Ok cool - thanks Daiyaan - appreciate it. Will monitor and check it out over the next while. Mine is hopefully set up correctly...

What you've done is excellent. Kids can use data/minutes and you don't pay extra.

Lucky for me, I'm single. Got my dual call in a router and using that for all my devices.

Thanks - imagine MTN figuring out family packages instead of single contracts for individuals in families.

Surprised none of the big cellphone networks in SA figured out family plans with minutes incl data... sigh...
