Seems to be a dearth of these locally.

What dual sim smartphone that is available locally is a good option? Replacing a Samsung SIII.

Thanks for the models. Will do a comparative, but on the face of it, the Mate 7 is the only one that offers Dual Call as opposed to Dual Standby. They all have non-removeable batteries. The Moto X Play has the most UTD version of Android.

Samsung Galaxy J1 has been on a big special (R1 300) on Takealot, and that's dual-sim. Limited on RAM, but everything else about it looks decent

I second the Huawei Mate 7 Gold , just a great phone all round . Iv been using one now for almost 3 months and it's been a pleasure .

GSMArena states dual standby.

In that case I dont fully understand what is meant by dual call/standby. Both SIM's are live, both can make and receive calls. You can also define which SIM is used for data.
In my use case prepaid Voice SIM in the one slot. Contract data SIM in other other.
