Ducted aircon installs

Anyone have a ducted AC system installed at home? At my place I have 3 rooms where split units just wouldn't work well so I'm just exploring what I might do when I renovate.

How much space do you ideally need in the ceiling cavity for the indoor unit and ducts? The house has a flat roof so the space is limited compared to a normal attic space.

I see the cost of the actual units aren't that bad anymore, but obviously the installation cost would be a lot more than a split unit - anyone know what can of price range would be reasonable for a 4 bedroom house?

And then, if you have experience with these units what are your thoughts about reliablity, efficiency, maintenance costs, etc?

The cost of said system would be interesting. Remember you're servicing the sum of every room Sqm wise.

Pretty sure it's cheaper than a ducted equivalent and individual rooms get their own indoor unit. Would like to know for sure though...
To give you an example, an aircon for my open plan lounge, kitchen is about R50k because of the volume and one unit servicing it. That's a single split unit.

What is the combined bedroom size / what BTU total do you need?
 
My neighbor has one of these units. IIRC he has a split unit in each room so each room can be controlled individually. The amount of air that thing pusses out that cowling is crazy. And he runs it day and night. Nonstop.

Hahaha nope. Big ass fscking house. They delivered it with a truck that got a crane to lift it over the wall and into its spot. But fsck his electricity bill must be crazy.

I was quoted R137k for a a VRV system with 3 cassettes, but I decided on 3 separate cassette units which were more or less the same.
The only reason I went with separates was that they're R32 and not R410A.
 
Daikin have a nice multi with R32, the MXM. Comes in sizes for 2, 3, 4 or 5 indoor units and those can be any of their types, cassettes, wall mounted, etc.
