Where can i get them for the best prices,
I have checked junk mail and OLX (as normal), but cant really find anything in the PTA area, the cheapest i can find is at Makro which is still bloody expensive, is there anywhere else i can have a look?, if i can also just get the plates for a decent price, its a start.....

I have looked and they are all expensive, about R25 per kilo.

Mr Price sport I think is the cheapest.

That 50KG set they are selling, 2 weeks back they advertised it for R1300, i see now they are saying it normally sells for R1600, and if you buy both the bench and the barbell set you get it for R2700
That's Ridiculous if you ask me.
If i buy them separate from Makro I’ll be saving like R300 on their current “sale” price -_-

Mr Price, R80 for a 2.5 plate O_o

@Samr1wp, Sadly enough, Makro seems like the best bet at the moment.

If i may ask, are you on a medical aid that is affiliated with virgin active?

Virgin active gym's are 90 bucks a month or 150 odd for all virgins except classic, i also went down the home route but i find for 90 rand using a gym is much easier, i can also swim in winter which is awesome.

Game isn't badly priced either.

I make use of Virgin Active because I am with Discovery, but make no mistake I hate it. Also looking at acquiring my own home gym at some point soon.

Closest VA to me (Tygervalley) was downgraded recently, specifically the squat racks went from 2 to 1, the flat benches from 3 to 2, and they were busy in peak times already before the downgrade.

Their suggestion were to make use of the Smith machine, which by the way, has a weight limit of 120kg.

Im with medihelp
And i don’t wanna go to a Gym, i always have to wait to use certain machines, the 18 year olds all think they are the direct descendants of Arnie, and it’s always a fuss to motivate myself to go the gym in the evenings, when you get home at 6, the last thing you want to do is get dressed to go to the gym and have people look at you while you are spinning :P

I have one of these home gym machines, and i have two 10kg dumbells, and a spinning machine. I can probably do 90% of all exercises with my current setup, my problem is i want to do arm curls with a barbell and not the dumbells, would also like to do shoulder presses with a little heavier barbell, my other problem of course is 20kg is a little light. The home gym also has a arm curl bar, but it’s extremely uncomfortable

Game's prices aren't that shabby. I bought all my disks there. Try to check them out on their special days. That be every Thursday till Sunday.

You can even pop in at the different Cash Converters branches. Very often that there are gym equipment at really good prices but then again they sell out quickly. So pack all your luck in your bag when you go.:D

tried quite a few ...they never ever have weights

yip
Called every cash crusaders and Cash Converters in Pretoria, not one of them has got anything.

im just gonna hold my breath and buy one of the benches at Game or Makro

tried quite a few ...they never ever have weights

The one in N1 city often has. Could have gotten quite a couple of bargains but then I don't have the money to buy. And when you come back a day later it's gone.:(

So Basically i have a few choices
1.Bench + 20kg weights (barbell) R999 (Makro)
2.No bench, 60kg, Barbell + dumbells R1300 (Makro)
3.No Bench, 40kg Barbell R900 (Makro)
4.Bench only R700 (Makro)
5.Bench + 20kg Barbell R1300 (Game)

So going by this, the two standout options are option 1 and option 2
But i'm afraid of going with option 1, as its probably going to be this kark vinyl weights, so i'm not sure if i can buy additional weights, or if they will even fit.
Option 2 is the best value for money, but no bench :-/
and i don't wanna go over R1300
Im so confused.

Sounds like the small bench....how much weight you planning to work with in total cause those small benches are a lil flimzy.

As much as possible, which is not much going by these prices, i refuse to pay R25 per KG.
So i should rather buy the 60kg set, with my dumbbells at home i can push it up to 80kg, and just buy/build a decent bench later on.

(even the 60KG set works out at R21 per KG, but luckily you get the barbell and 2 dumbell's)

It's funny how we should be measuring almost everything we buy per kilo:D Sh*t everytihing's expensive now days. Usually it was only meat and other grocery products but now we pay for gym disks per kilo...lol

I first bought my dumbells (2 x 10kg) then later bought the 25kg barbell and just added 2 x 7.5kg disks. Now I have 60 kilo's and still no bench of my own. But my buddy left his bench by me and it's a Trojan 500. has a squat rack facility as well.

I would say first by the 60kg set and bench later. It's always good to have a good bench that can support the weight of your bar as well as your own. The Trojan 500 would be my recommendation as I've personally worked out on it.:) That's off course if they still make it. I saw the 350 which was a lil smaller but still solid. Anything smaller would be a waste.
