In an attempt to cut back on my screen addiction, I am looking for recommendations for a small and cheap phone that's WhatsApp compatible. I'm leaning towards something with KaiOS on it. Any suggestions?

Also considered this a while back but then…

You can have your cake and eat it.

Most of the new cheap Nokias are compatible with whatsapp I think.

Nokia 8110
Nokia 6310
Nokia 105
Nokia C1

etc etc

Get a cheap phone that is unable to run whatsapp. Install Whatsapp on a laptop/tablet/smartphone and lock it in the safe using a a timer padlock:

Is screen addiction a thing - like similar to drugs? Or cigarettes?

Seems to be, there was a guy going on about something similar today, cant remember the thread, but he uses the iOS screen time analytics feature to lock himself out of certain apps then to bypass it he needs a special code from his GF.

Like.... why not just have some self-discipline?

Have you considered joining a gym?

Psychiatric presentation is closer to executive function disorder / weakened impulse control.

It’s more common than people realise, but a lot of people don’t see it as a problem. Can’t see yourself as a chronic procrastinator if you aren’t very ambitious or have your boss / wife / parent breathing down your neck playing the role of disciplinarian for you.

So now you’ll spend all that time in WhatsApp only and still do nothing productive.

Changing the phone doesn’t fix the problem.

MTN Smart T 3G seems to be the winner. Basic functionality. nothing fancy. R399.
