OK i have 2 x computers at home.
1 upstairs and 1 downstairs.

I have just bought my Iburst Desktop modem.
and i have a wireless netgear router at home.

Would it be possible to : setup the iburst Desktop modem on the pc downstairs , connected via the LAn port.
hook up the netgear to another port on the Iburst Desktop modem and then connect to the netgear from upsatrais via the wireless dongle ?

or something along those lines.
Many thanks

Can your wireless router set up a PPPoE connection? If so, plug the iBurst modem into the router's WAN RJ45 port, and let the router set up the connection. Connect the downstairs PC to one of the other ethernet ports on the router (assuming that it does have some more ethernet ports). Connect upstairs via wireless, and off you go.

My setup at home is as described above, running a PSP, 4 notebooks, 1 Desktop and 1 PDA off my Gigabyte Wireless Router

Which model netgear do you have?

Yes it is possible.

Iburst modem connects to the WAN port on the router. PC downstairs connects to any of the other 4 ports. PC upstairs connects via USB wi-fi dongle.

hmm weirdness i think

ok i have the on lan port on the desktop modem.
taken a lan cable from there and plugged it into a port on the netgear DG834 router that has wirelss capability.

Then taken another cable from the Netger to the pc that will be connecting to iburst via PPOE.

now my secon pc has the wirelss dongle.
local ip range is 192.168.0.x i see the iburst desktop modem is 192.168.0.1.

now how do i get the secon pc to connect to the 1st pc so that it gets internet access ?

i could use ICS but because the desktop modem has an ip of 192.168.0.1 this wont work.. is there any way then i could change the desktop modems ip to something else perhaps ?

or am i missing something here.
as from the second pc i can initiate a PPOE connection and connect to iburst but then the 1st pc can no connect to internet and visa versa.

Thanks

There should be no need to change IP addresses.

Your desktop modem must be connected to the WAN port of the router, not one of the LAN ports. Your wired PC muct be connected to a LAN port on the router. Your wireless PC will connect wirelessly.

Your router should be given the task of making the PPPOE connection to Iburst. Your 2 PC's will then share the connection. To do that you have to setup the router to make a PPPoE connection, give it your Iburst username and password, and an MTU of 1352. Get it to automatically reconnect when disconnected.

You can do the configuration from a web browser on your wired PC. If you are not sure how, read the Netgear router manual.

Good luck.

Netgear settings...

Check your Netgear router settings...

Try to ping the router and other pc, by using the assigned IP address.

ok but the Netgear was previously used for DSL.

So there is no WAN port just the DSL connection and the 4 Lan ports.
while the Iburst only has the one lan port.

I see your problem now. Your router is an ADSL modem/router! So instead of a RJ45 jack you have a RJ11 phone jack...

You can turn your modem/router into a glorified access point (Switch its DHCP off). Connect Iburst and the router to one PC (on two seperate NIC's) The address of the NIC to which the router is attached will then be your Gateway IP. You then need to set this as your Internet Gateway Address in the wireless PC's TCP/IP settings.

You then use PPPoE on the wired PC and share the connection via the router.

You may still be able to connect the Iburst modem to the router and get everything to work, but that's beyond my experience.
