Hi

Where can i get this? My wife paid off her car ages ago but she cant find the documentation that the bank supposedly sent her once it was paid off. She was recently in an accident and the insurer needs it to do a write off.

Ive check on the enatis site and they say goto nearest "registering authority". Ive also tried the call centre nr but after listening to indigenous black music for 15min on hold i put the phone down out of pure irritation.

Can anyone please advise where to get this done? Traffic dept?

Did your wife transfer it into your/her name after the bank sent everything to you?

If it has been transferred, and you have lost it, Traffic Department (Licence) will charge you R 500 for a new one.

If it was not transferred, then you can try your luck and try and get another copy from the bank, but if they sent it you are buggered.

Get ready to pay for a new duplicate.

This is where I get the hell in with the banks - it should be made absolutely clear to people that the car HAS to be changed into their names within 21 days of getting the documents.

If I trade 5 cars in a month that were bought on finance, I can almost guarantee that 3 of them will not have been changed to the owner's name, simply because the owners think it's OK that they simply have the NaTIS documents. Another thing that banks are very slack about is actually making the owner collect their documents when the car is settled. That is usually simply left up to the owner to work out for themselves.

Yeah i know what u mean, my wife isnt as sharp as she should be with this sorta thing, so now we need to find out where the docs even went, and if it was even sent.

Precisely!

This is where I feel that the banks are at fault for not making it perfectly clear what you should do - it invariably leads to drama further down the road.

Oi don't blame the banks! They send you a letter with the documents stating that you need to register title-holdership within 21 days! :p

No Shaun - I've found out the hard way, that they only send you the documents if you ask for them.

In my experience the customers normally get them by post then put them somewhere and forget about them. We have had a client or two who said the bank didn't send them anything but that was more the exception than the rule.

I don't have such a big issue if they didn't update title-holder if they still have all the docs. But many lose the docs and then the whole process is delayed trying to get the relevant Bank to obtain a duplicate.
