Do you guys know which software I can use to check for duplicate movies stored on two separate folders. The names might not be 100% the same eg. Folder 1 Angels and Demons 2009 and Folder 2 Angels and Demons

What do you want to do, search for duplicates and delete if there is and you want to search 2 separate folders, eg. Movies folder on 1 1TB drive and another Movies folder on a 500GB drive?

Yes, I want to search for duplicates then delete the duplicates.

Advanced file organizer may be useful.

There are plenty programs like this out there but you probably have different formats/sizes and names to contend with.

I Would personally rename the movies manually so they are alphabetical (and remove the word "the" from the front where applicable) then manually delete duplicates.

+1

Maybe use suction to consolidate all files in 1 folder, then use an app like theRenamer to put it into new folders... But the movie itsself needs to be named correctly before you do this as theRenamer wont be able to pick up the correct details.. example: if Angels & Demons has a name like a&d2009 etc

Try Dupedetector, it looks at the structure and size of the files to locate duplicates. Works very well.

Just be careful as most vobs have identical names and need to be in the correct folder structure to work.

I used AVG tweak something or the other. The trial/demo version does have the feature. Will let u know correct name when I get home.

Does not help with video's

He may have several different formats and a DVD rip/ISO of the same movie..

it's a start - you can set many options that it can detect/filter for you - dates, names, crc32 checks...
it's still better than "windows search"

he can then also go through it manually, and sort folders by file size, to see if a folder contains 2 of the same movies (different files)

a duplicate file scanner will do the job, but your movies will still have crap names
With total commander and lots of time I gave all my movies proper names inside of a properly named folder.

He is going to find many many many vobs...

With the fact that there are so many different formats and names it will be a wasted excersize.

The files will not be duplicates at all.

Things like 2010 Xmen Origins.avi and Wolveriene.mkv then a folder names Xmeno full of Vobs will not be found.

Selfquote, is it legal :)
The program is AVG Tune Up 2011. Helped me with the same problem.
