Hello everyone
I have a rather tricky situation to sort out.
My elderly father was living independently in Welkom, Free State until early March 2022. I am based in Johannesburg.
To cut a very long story short he was admitted to hospital for surgery and after a 23 day stay he was discharged on the basis that he needed to be admitted to a frail care home and was also diagnosed with vascular dementia.
In order to urgently raise funds to get my father admitted to a frail care dementia home (in Johannesburg) my boyfriend offered to privately buy his old car as a little runabout. The license disc expires 30 June 2022.
I have searched high and low for the original registration document, but it seems my father only meticulously filed the annual license renewal documents.
From what I am reading online the owner needs to go in person to apply for a duplicate copy. Firstly this will not be possible as he is bedridden and secondly he is now in a frail care home in Johannesburg and the vehicle is registered in the Free State.
My immediate concern is being able to renew the license disc before it expires end of next month. Are there companies that can arrange a renewal in the Free State and courier it to Johannesburg?
Secondly, how do I go about obtaining a duplicate in order to arrange change of ownership when he is unable to travel to a license department in the Free State?
I am hoping someone has experienced a similar situation and can offer me advice.
