What brand/model do you recommend? It does not need to have "great" sound quality- average will do nicely. But it must be durable. The cheap stuff only lasts 6 months :(

Recommendations please?

(And no, I'm not spending R1.5k on Sennheiser top-of-the-range stuff. Durability is priority, sound quality is not).

EDIT:
These have good reviews, specifically i.t.o. durability. Is there perhaps something similar but cheaper out there (maybe by a different brand)?

How about spending R400-R500 on Sennheiser middle-of-the-range stuff? Mine's still going 18 months after I bought them at Look n Listen.

Thanks Hamster! That's the one I'm eyeing at the moment. But R1k (need a pair for the wifey too) is just a little steeper than I really want to spend.

But if this deal is head-and-shoulders above anything else out there, then I'll probably end up taking it.

Honestly the sport range are extremely durable.

i had the CX685 and they lasted me 2 1/2 years and were used daily bike commute, running, everything. Incredible little guys.

Discontinued and have been replaced by this:

K they are R1k.. but for me, R1k that will last 2yrs+ is well worth the investment.

You also get the completely in-ear ones: http://fotodiscountworld.co.za/shop/sennheiser-cx-686g-sports/

Some might not like the little hooks, but for me they are awesome. Fit comfy, never fall out, great sound and extremely durable.

I have been through this as well...Trust me, when i say, You are better off with Bluetooth earphones...Bluedio ones from Takealot or even the expensive JVC...(they are the best for commute, because they connect to your phone and Tablet and you dont have to switch between the 2, just play music or movies from any device and it picks up what you're doing) .. The only 2 problems are , there is a bit of residual noise that comes through, so dont put it on full blast as you would with normal earphones. it is because they market these earphones as sports earphones, and not noise canceling earphones.
2nd problem, you need to charge them 1 once, maybe twice a week....none of these problems bother me though...

I have cheapies I use in front of my desk, but whenever I need move, or commute, die bluetooth ones come out.

So, feedback: I'm pretty sure they're durable. And the sound quality is good (I'm not an audiophile, so take that within context), but copulate me they are old-school style and NOT particularly comfortable :(
Not happy about that.

(Admittedly my fault for not specifying "comfort" as a criterion)

I had similar one's from Senheiser a few years back. The sound quality was average and never went back to the brand for entry level sound. I found the soft covers for the ear pieces to be flimsy and uncomfortable. From then on I moved to Skullcandy, Phillips and JBL.

It's a shame you didn't come on yesterday to ask, there was a great deal on House of Marley earbuds. I had a good experience with them and build quality is top.
