Durban Hackathon

Wow! Exciting since I've never seen a hackathon promoted here in Durbs. Also haven't been to one yet so may just come along...

Is there a specific problem domain that you are going to give to the attendees or is it build your idea that you have? Also, is it a team thing or self dev?

Sorry if the questions seems silly - like I said, I've never been to one of these :)

Event Details

Hackathon where we aim to aid the local unversity students in making their app ideas a reality. Microsoft MVPs Taylor Gibb and Matt Cavanagh will be at the event making this all possible.

You are required to bring your own laptop and tools; for building Windows specific apps (Phone, Desktop or Web) you will need to have a Windows laptop running Windows 8.1 with Visual Studio 2013 Premium installed. If you are targeting other platforms or using other tools, its up to you to make sure you have everything you need.

We also have some sweet prizes and swag to give away:

3 x Windows Phones
Shirts
Juice Bottles
Power Banks
Bags

The idea behind the hackathon is to promote creative thinking and an ecosystem in which things get built.

The hosts story is quite interesting. He left school(not varsity) to work as a dev. Would be fascinating to learn more.

Edit: Looks like you can build your own things. Possibly trying to encourage development on Win phones. Teams would probably build out their apps faster (1 day hackathon).

Yup, you can develop for any platform.
Taylor works at Dervico now :)

Looks really fun, wish I was at a point where I've spent more time with .NET
