Hi guys,

Been a while since I went to DBN, never mind with a toddler. Need some advise.

1. In regards to Umhlanga or Ballito, does it really matter or are they close enough that differences are inconsequential.
2. Anything to do for a toddler < 3? First time going this far with a mini person and worried about them being kept busy.
3. Better to leave on Monday morning for Durban from PTA or another day? Very flexible around timing.

whats the water ecoli situation like there at the moment?

Sies! Best advice is to give this whole trip a miss! KZN is the worst! :cautious:

Unless... Are you maybe planning this trip so that you can take part in the looting that will be happening around the election time? In that case, then maybe yes, go. I am sure you can find "someone" to take care of your toddler. Heck why not take them along for the experience?

Not much to do. Durban has become a dump. Take kid to uShaka Marine World. Not sure how much of it the kid will remember, but the photos will be good for memories.

Umhlanga . Ballito. 20 minutes on the highway if there is no accident and don't get stuck in peek traffic , specially during loadshedding.

Crime is high.

Gateway has some areas for kids to play with balls. Be careful on the roads. It's probably the worst time to travel.

Why Durban? Need to see family ?

Plenty up North to keep your toddler busy.

Burndale Farm is good for a meal, playground and small animal farm.

Sugar Rush Park has a lot of different activities. Trampoline Park, playground, jumping castles etc

Flag Animal Farm. Animals, water play area, playground.

Sage in Salt Rock is nice for toddlers.

@tap Coffee Corner in Durban North is good for a simple meal and play area for kids.

Bounce trampoline Park in Cornubia

Be Up Trampoline and activity centre in Gateway. Has more stuff for smaller kids than bounce.

Your case Umhlanga is better, central and closer to more kid friendly activities, Mitchell Park Zoo, Umgeni Bird Park, Ushaka are just a 10-15min drive vs a 35 to 40min commute and toll road from Ballito.

Then there's stuff mentioned by the others in Gateway and Cornubia.

I wouldn't jump in the water around the central beaches but Durban is looking good this morning.

I'm currently at Coffee Corner after a walk/ride on the beach with my 7yo. He is playing while I enjoy a coffee and book

Durban itself, write off. Umhlanga, well maintained & clean, water quality unsure. Ballito, to far for me to really know what the beaches are like. But the place is nice, lots of malls etc.

ya skip durban and rather to mpumalanga or something

but the north still has stuff for kids

but also 3 year old dont remember much
I'd like to leave her with her Granmother but haven't gotten an agreement there.
I just personally need a break from JHB in general

What's the latest on the ecoli levels for umhlanga main beach, clean or still high ?
