I ordered ADSL 4 weeks ago, and was waiting for my line to be upgraded last week. Nobody called to confirm that anything was done, so i decided to call 10219 to see how far Telkom was...

Once i got through on 10219, they told me that they've run out of ADSL ports at the Durbanville exchange and that the exchange will only be upgraded by July.

JULY!?!? How is it possible to take 6 months to install extra ADSL ports? Has anyone got the same problem in the Durbanville area?

Not personally, but have a friend who ordered in september 2006 (Durbanville). After being stuffed around by telkom for a while (they allocated ports to him, but at the wrong address), they eventually told him ports only available in july 2007.

WTF?? I'm also in the Durbanville area. Applied on the 19th Jan 2007 and it was active on the 26th - a week later! :)

Phone them back and tell them they are talking absolute k@k

Mine is in Durbanville Hills - ordered in October 2006, was installed 2 weeks later.

I feel your pain

Dude, dude, dude, i feel your pain. i suffered for 3 months last year trying to get dsl at my flat in church street durbanville. finally got that around june. then i made the mistake of buying a house in welgevonden estate - also in durbanville, not more than 2km from my old flat...

gave telkom notice of my line transfer first week of december, and they said 4 to 6 weeks. fair enough, christmas time and all. so 6 weeks pass and i hear nothing. phoned them first time about 3 weeks ago, and get one BS story after another - probably phoned them 5 times, and every time that i was promised a return call, i never received one.

today i phone the plonkers, and they say to me that a "port project" will be completed on the 25th of March, and only after that will i get dsl again.

for FFFF sake, i had dsl, i moved in the same area, and now it takes 4 months to reconnect my dsl? sorry telkom, but i'm investigating wireless alternatives, and as soon as i find one i'm happy with, i'm cancelling my dsl account, even if it works out costing me more.

FFFF you telkom, FFFF you very much

don't believe those port project K@K, I was told the same over the phone last year beginning of Sep and near the end of Sep got a letter from them their facility is fully utilised and can not provide DSL service........My nearest exchange is Rosebank in JHB........Spoke to a tech a month later after I got WIFI, he was so surprised they sent me the letter since he knows there is a port project and there is capacity.........I cancelled my line on that same day......

Just did a test of a 10 Mbps connection:

603 kbps download speed !!
349 kbps upload speed !!

Why pay for a 10 Mbps ADSL line with such putrid performance ?
