Perfect ! The first 48 consecutive hours with power and Sentech goes down.
Well actually up and down - 10 minutes online then disconnected and perhaps an hour later another 10 minutes of activity. Sometimes the tower is there sometimes ' network unavailable, user and password, disconnected by service provider ( I'm sure the error messages are just randomly rotated...)
A call to Sentech support - ' It's down due to the power failure ' . Well bad luck - any other time this last week I would have bought that one, but today the juice is flowing like a river.

Surprisingly.... there is no mention of any problem on the Sentech garbage board. Pathetic as always Sentech.

Which tower were you having hassles with dave? I'm taking that you're in CapeTown (hereforth known as the "Dark City" instead of the "Mother City")

Keep in mind -- whilst your suburb, and even the tower that you connect to may have had power, the rest of the POP's around CapeTown via which your tower is routed may have been down, or up/down intermittently in backup power.

Don't blame Sentech. Blame ESKOM buddy! :) :) :)

I'm on basestation 126.

I really tried hard to blame somebody else this time Telkom, George Bush, but regrettably I had to settle for Sentech again.

I must admit to not fully understanding how Sentech connectivity works but logic tells me....

The peninsula had a 48 hour weekend blackout reprieve - there was power everywhere. For the last two weeks as long as I have had power in my area, I have had connectivity - even if the rest of Cape Town was in the dark.

I have been in the ISP game for longer than I care to remember and you get a feel for things - call it gut instinct. The symptoms pointed to either some kind of transmission or authentication error - or more likely a faulty hardware item.

95% of login attempts I was able to find the basestation - four bars and 29 or 30% signal - which is normal for me. On the odd occasion I had to wait perhaps 10 minutes for it to find the tower.
Attempting to connect I was provided with every error code in the database - Provider not suported, wrong login details but mostly network unavailable, try again later.

Perhaps once an hour I was able to connect - quickly grab some mail and check out the cricket score - then 'page not available' began to appear and I would wait for the disconnect - which followed shortly. Then for the next hour I would have zero chance of reconnecting.

Sentech support offered the power failure - affecting Durbanville and Loewenstein - on both occassions I called them. Advising them that power was on couldn't change their opinion.

They obviously knew there was an issue as these two areas were on their list - but as I said no mention on their board.

Monday morning I suspect somebody replaced something ( which they knew about all weekend ) - and since then it's been rock solid again.

That's about it .

Daveza , has the problem fixed permanently.I'm asking because I had someone come and install an antenna and after hours of battling with the job(because the connection kept dropping) they gave up saying it can't be done.Later they had to help another Durbanville client who was also connecting but immediately losing their connection. After phoning Nowire , the antenna guy was told there's a problem with the Durbanville area!

I hesitate to say ' permanently ' but it's been solid since Monday.....

What exactly did they say the ' problem' was/is ? - I always suspect they have a list of 10 possibilities and rotate them at random. Nobody ever seems to really convince me.

They didnt exactly say.The antenna guy was getting 4 bars on the roof of my place. He mounted the pole , placed the antenna , ran the cabbling down into my study(less than 6m , i think) and connected the modem. He said the modem would connect and login , but immediately the connection would be dropped.A cycle.
The guy from Nowire just told him "there's a problem with Durbanville".
I'm up in Aurora street and I just happen to miss the covered.

The problem seems to have come back again.Daveza , are you also experiencing the on and off problem ?It's been happening since morning today
