Duty free allowance. Left or right

I'm off to Serbia in less than a week. Wanna hit some craft breweries.

Qatar has 2x bags allowance per person.

But am I correct in saying my allowance for something like beer would be 1l? Essentially forget about it? If I really wanted to bring in do I just go with 20% duty? Look don't get me wrong I know you can try sneak past but I would rather just leave it and enjoy it that side.

Just want to make sure I'm not missing something. Would rather bring in a nice bottle of rakjia then.
 
You get two litres of wine and “No more than 1 litre in total of other alcoholic beverages”, including beer, so make it count.

I assume I can stack?

So 2l wine plus 1l beer? Urgh a region rich in wine beer and brandies that limit is so small..

But if i wanna do more legally just add 20% to what I paid? Assuming keep receipts etc

Yes. You can use both allowances.

Not sure what the duty rate is for beer. Is it 20%. Then there will be vat.

Urgh forgot abt that I think you can go flat rate or actual duty but that might be more.
 
They're really more interested in the dog smelling out your expensive french cheese you paid 120 EUR for... (yes, been there, lost that)

I travel a lot and have never been searched by them when going through Green. But that said its not impossible. The problem is in this country, even if you're "a little over" they will use the opportunity to get a bribe, rather than just let you pass...

Oh don't get me wrong i understand the sneaking etc. But I would rather just do it by the book in this case especially if it's really special items

Wouldn't surprise me last trip through Spain they have those leg of hams in duty free I can't imagine flying back with one hehe

Seems like the limit applies to duty free as well from what I read on the Sars site unless I'm misunderstanding this?

Flat-Rate Assessment
Over and above the duty-free allowance, you may choose to pay customs duty at a flat-rate of 20% on goods which you acquired abroad or in any duty-free shop.

Coming from Scotland to SA I usually buy a few for the suitcase and tbh I've never thought of an excuse. But I've taken far more from SA to wherever I'm travelling to than the other way around. Working in Indonesia before Covid struck I'd take 4 bottles of whisky and 3 x 1 litres of **** wine each trip and they never blinked an eye.

Edit: wow, d00s is a bad word???
 
We normally load our hand package with wine to the max and some more. Just make sure its sealed. Don't want a nice red to stain all your clothes.

Hand luggage? I'm referring to international flights. Not domestic. Domestic we load to the teeth although we courier most nowadays

You're profiled by the guys behind the one way windows long before entering the green or red. I have only ever been stopped once as well - At OR Tambo where they asked where I came from in the Green. When I said Angola they searched me and my luggage for diamonds...
