DVD Divx Players with USB Host

bwana - its like this :

the new local "HD" DVD Players are called HD not because they play HD dvd movies but because it has a HDMI port which connects to the HDMI port on the hd plasma, lcd or tv. The dvd player also has s-video but HDMI port does increase resolution to play movies at 720. or 1080.
The HDMI output of the player outputs an upscaled SD signal. It has nothing to do with the cable. You would get the same quality using the Plasma's built in scaler if you used component input. Basic rule is: If the resolution doesn't exist, you cant create it only interpolate it.

Now the same principle would apply for the mac mini with a dvi to hdmi converter connected to a hdmi port on say a large plasma.
Crap. The Mac mini can output a high resolution signal of up to 1920 x 1200, it can do this through DVI. An HDMI adaptor just allows you to put a DVI signal into an HDMI input. The video signals of DVI and HDMI are identical. DVI can even carry some copy protection. The only missing from DVI-D in comparison to HDMI is Audio and the latest versions of HDCP, but with the adaptor you're not going to get these anyhow.

This from the samsung.co.za website for their hd dvd player : Samsung's Hi-Definition DVD Players convert standard DVD image quality to High-Definition—for an audio-visual experience unlike that you've experienced from an ordinary DVD player.
hmmm, this is very dodgy advertising. ...Actually this is a bold faced lie. The player merely upscales, but not any better than a good LCD or Plasma. If the player played HD DiVX files, then maybe it would be ok, but AFAIK it doesn't.

arf9999 - my bad for wrong the comparison, it shuda been hdmi & svideo. Note : There is tooo much of information on the internet to digest LOL :) me & my beeg mouth !
