Hi Guys, anyone know where one could still find one of these?

My parents are looking for a new one, I know they are quite hard to find these days.

Seems like PVRs taken over but they do not want a PVR.

Thanks

Just did a quick search and couldn't find anything, you can try go to a walk in store suchas Makro, Hi-FI Corp, Game ect.

Dad has one upstairs that we don't use anymore, let me know if you are interested.

The sony shop in Cresta still had some a while back

I remember a posting a while ago mentioning that Multichoice requested that ALL local distributors of DVR (Digital Video Recorder) devices withdraw them from sale a few years ago, as they were affecting Multichoice's sales of HD-PVR's. I had a Sinotec DVR with a 160 GB HDD which died as a result of a power surge a year ago, and was unable to source a replacement device.

Yes that was the response I got from a couple of outlets when I tried to source a unit and so that was my posting. I have since had no luck at all, and have had to resort to Plan B: a USB video capture device which plugs into the decoder and then works reasonably well at enabling the signal from the three RCA sockets (red, white, yellow) to be saved to my computer's HDD. But it's possibly too complicated for the OP's intended use, for his parents.

Thanks for the replies. I managed to find 2 outlets that stock the Panasonic EH59 New World Menlyn and Sounds Great, 3.5k at New World and R200 more expensive at Sounds Great.

I know someone that can arrange a New World voucher for you.

In fact I bought it from Fry's Electronics in the States when I was there recently, so it's not available locally. I did in fact try two cheap-and-cheerful units bought locally (about R200 each) but neither worked very well and had to be returned, so if you do go this route be sure you have the right of return, as online info confirms there are some very nasty USB audio capture devices on the market.
