Hi guys,

I'm looking at buying a DVD player. What should I be looking for that will play most popular audio/video file formats. A friend of mine recently bought a cheap, not well known brand, can't remember the exact name now and it only seem to be able to play .mpg. Is this like the standard or are there better.

Not interested in those expensive HDD recorders, just want something simple that can play as much of what I download of the internet. Not nice siting at my desk watching these things. :(

I'm thinking of getting a Philips 3040 at Hi-Fi Corp for 449. What do you think? What would you recommend that is best value for money.

Thanks for any advice.

Oddly enough its often the cheap pieces of crap that will play anything you can throw at them.

If you can get one that plays divx that would be a bonus I guess.

.i'd also suggest to get one that play avi files, as this is very common format for movies. The box will tell you which format dvd player, plays. No, need to worry about expensive dvd layers.

maybe look for multizone dvd player, that can also play divx (.avi), but yes mostly the cheaper ones tend to play more formats...sometimes :D

SONY 5 disc DVD player has no region code and plays DIVX perfectly

LG DVD recorder with 250meg Hard drive can also play DIVX and region code can be switched off in 1 min. It can also copy the DIVX file from your CD/DVD onto its harddrive and then write it to other DVD's

ive got a cheapy dvd player which would play mpeg's but when i upgraded my cellphone i got a sorta mid range samsung and it doesnt play anything but dvd's so i swopped back to the el cheapo

dvd players buy the cheapest kuk around

Have a look at the new LG DK172 players (there is a soccer scene on the box) they handle 99% of all formats you throw at them :) +-R700
