Hi

I would like to buy a DVD player (multi-region or at least multi-region crackable) that Can do divX playback over its USB Port.

do any of you have such a device, and would you be kind enough to give a review, along with make and model number.

the ones i've seen so far at audio vision http://www.audiovision.co.za/specials.htm
Samsung DVD-P1080P8/9 - up scale
samsung DVD-P191
LG DV492H - upscale

@ Audio vision the sales person tested on the p190 (not 100% on this samsung model number). I took 2 flash drives to test, a 4GB and 8GB. but for some reason, on both flash drives, its as if the DVD player did not 'see' the 700MB files, only the 350MB files, i.e. it was NOT in the file list.

Anyone else encountered similar file limitations on their players? Would like to know if im going crazy or not.

nashuaelectronics has a
toshiba sd 480 @ R899 and a
Pioneer DV 310-K @ R1099 (i like this one)

gonna check out game and hifi-corp(only to test not buy!). would appreciate model recommendations.

thanks

I have a Phillips DVP5968K and I bought it at Hifi Corp almost 2 years ago. I use my 8GB and 16Gb USB memory sticks and it works perfectly. Never had a problem with it. My remote was stolen and I purchased a replacement from the AGENTS for R115. The DVD retailed for R699 and the codecs can be updated by downloading it from the Phillps website puting it on a CDR/W and running it like a normal CD. So Phillips is my choice for DVD/DIVX and unlike other horror stories I have been very happy with my HiFi Corp Purchase. I have been buying my AV goodies there for years. PS I dnt buy the home brand anything there only recognaised brands i.e Samsung Phillips etc. Good Luck with your purchase, Don't believe the HiFi Corp Hype.

I bought a Pioneer DVD player at HiFi Corp in 2001. It then died on me - within 3 months of the purchase - that is - it wouldn't play most DVDs - that it played before - and would spit out CD-Rs. HiFi Corp wouldn't replace it or refund the money, instead they made me return the unit for repair. Well after a week, the unit was still malfunctioning - it wouldn't play certain DVDs (it wasn't a region thing, the same disks played back before). I was told the laser was misaligned - they took it back again and repaired it again and still had the problem. At the end the manager agreed for a swap out for another Pioneer DVD player - an updated model. Well that player played for a while but after 2-3 years its eject mechanism jammed so that when a disk ejects the tray closes immediately - so you have to either grab and hold onto the tray OR slip the disk in quickly. It works still otherwise.

I also had problems with a subwoofer which wouldn't work - from the store. Also had problems with a VCR - the power supply died one day and
a portable CD player. The SONY CD player would play my CDs fine, but theproblem was - it was scratching them. It damaged 3-4 CDs before I realised what was happening. HiFi Corp ultimately replaced the unit and gave me a JVC.

Also had an issue with a CRT TV. They tried to fix it and ultimately exchanged it for another unit which works well now.

Basically, almost every bit of tech I purchased at HiFi Corp had issues.

Dude that is hectic. I have heard simular stories and kringe maybe the Tech Gods are protecting me because not ONCE has anything I bought from ever given me a problem my 1st DVD was a Samsung and it played for well over 2 years before I replaced it and that just because it was outdated. Sorry to hear about your woes.
