Hi guys,
can you recommend a reliable dvd recorder that records without picture loss.I am giving my old LG recorder to my folks so i would like a new one? A hard drive is not completely necessary but the most important thing is getting the best quality from dstv etc. Will hi-fi corp have? Anywhere else i should consider?
also do any of you guys know of those external devices that can be used to record tv.

I usually record clips to update my youtube channel but the quality is just too weak (too many artifacts from the LG dvd recorder). Do you guys record anything from tv and if so how

cheers :D

I got this device from h2h. However I am hesitant to recommend it. I battled to set it up and some functions don't work as I'd expect that forced me to find workarounds. E.g. Can't copy files over ethernet network to windows 7 PC, so I must run a virtual XP to do so and starting a timed recording manually by pressing the record button multiple times, the recording stop at the desired/expected time, but the unit stay turned on, does not go into standby as I'd expect it should. All little things (software bugs), but overall it does what I wanted it for: "To record TV programs to watch at a later time." Also it is a bit noisy, but as I understand it, all these type of things are, so I can't tell you if the level of noise is more or less than other DVRs.

What I'd suggest you do is google for digital video/TV recorder. There are many similar devices out there. Have a look on bid or buy, there are a couple too. Unfortunately all these devices are imported, hence difficult to get repaired or returned, should it be faulty. I could not find anything like this in local shops.

EDIT: I don't have dstv, so I have no idea how my recorder would work with dstv. Wouldn't it be better for you to go with the MultiChoice PVR thing that they sell?

Hope that helps.
