Anyone know how to change a Sansui RX-9902AVD to multi-zone?

I have a list of websites I usually visit to find a hack, but very few of them list any Sansui models and none have this particular one. Anyone know if Sansui goes by a different name in other countries?

Also, please feel free to use this thread to list your own make/model of DVD player if you're looking for a hack.

When I last checked- the Sansui was a pain in the ass to region hack. Speaking under correction here- I *think* you needed a mod chip (not too sure)

Sansui is a brand name and AFAIK doesn't go by other names abroad.

The easiest DVD players to region hack are the generic Chinese ones that can be bought at Pick 'n Pay and Hifi Corruption under brand names AIM and DIAMOND, respectively.

 Sansui is NOT a brand name any more than AIM is.

...and Telefunken and Sansui and Sanyo and TEAC and ...................

Is it Region locked? Almost all the players on the SA market are not locked, even when they say they are.

I think Sansui is a brand ... I would buy a Sansui before I bought an AIM or Diamond

My Sony DVD players came with 'Region 2 locked' on the box - but neither were. In fact, the salesman told me if it was, he'd send it back to Sony to do the unlocking.

Trust me. Sansui is NOT a brand. Sansui TVs are made by TCL (chinese manufacturer), and their other electronics are similar to Singer or Diamond or TEAC.

AKAI and Sansui = Japanese name/chinese cr@p.

Ok ... maybe it isn't ;) I just know that personally my brand list would look something like this ...

1) AIM, DIAMOND, TEAC
2) SANYO, SANSUI,
5) JVC, TELEFUNKEN
3) SAMSUNG, LG, PIONEER, PANASONIC
4) SONY, TECHNICS, KENWOOD
5) YAMAHA, MARANTZ, HARMON KARDON

That's with 6 being the preference, and also product dependant (general)

Yip, unfortunately it is. I tested it with a region 1 DVD (I buy from Amazon US on occassion) and got a "Wrong Region" message.

Teac is apparently not that bad (this is from hearsay).
I've owned a Telefunken DVD player and refuse to buy one again.
I'm quite an LG fan but be aware they they list their speaker output in Watts (Program), which is different from both RMS and PMPO. It's about half of RMS from what I'm told. A lot of people mistake it as RMS.
This is the third Sansui product I've bought and I've yet to be dissappointed.

Heeeey! ;) Many companies are owned by other companys!

I knew Technics was Panasonic and Marantz was Philips ... but they're they're still two different companies. In that case Lamborghini = Porsche = Audi= VW = SEAT and Ferrari = Fiat ...

Had two Marantz CD players now and I think they're magic - not much can touch most models for the same price.

I'd never go for a Telefunken products, BUT we have a Telefunken TV that was bought 8 years ago and I'm battling replacing it at a reasonable cost. Also, seen the picture quality of many Telefunken RPTVs compared to the other brands sitting next to them, and I'd like the picture!

To pull this back on topic. If anyone knows of a region hack (besides a hardware mod), please let me know.

nope...Technics is just Panasonic and Marantz is just Philips, and Aiwa is Sony. Not different companies at all. If you look at company ownership then JVC,Victor, RCA and Panasonic are the same (Matsu****a corporation)....this is more like your car anology.

(And seriously AUDI=VW=SEAT=SKODA :D).

/arf bumps thread back onto track

Martin, there is probably a remote control hack for the Sansui. Try the hacks for TEAC and Singer if you can find them on the net.

You reckon they may work for Sansui? I'll give them a bash. Thanks.

*sigh* I hate being wrong ... ;)

Must ask you then, what TV could I replace my (cr@ppy Japanese) Telefunken with? ;)

The TV was an import from Germany 8 years back, and the main reason I battle to replace it, is because it features twin SCARTS - which can both be configured to accept RGB, S-VHS or composite video signals. This is ideal, because my DSTV, DVD player and Sony PS1/2 all use RGB via SCART - which gives a much better picture than standard! Plus, I can rename all stations, it has a light sensor (not that Goldeneye thing), and thin TV tube.

When I lived in England I had a VCR called an alba which is identicle to my sansui VCR I have in South Africa. The site i use to get dvd region hacks is http://www.dvdcodes.net and it has codes for alba's and sansui's.

Looks like you have to buy them though. If anyone is looking for a pretty comprehensive site, try www.dvd365.net.
