LG RH7624W DVD Recorder

I also bought the LG RH7624W DVD Recorder and I was told by the lying greasy salesman that it was region free. I have since found that this is not the case so searching the net turned up the following:

1. Put in a DVD that will play (in our case region 2)
2. When it starts playing, press eject
3. While the drawer is open press "0" seven times
4. When you get the "Congrats" press Enter and done!

I find the Engrish in the manual and on some menu choices to be quite irritating... I thought LG would be a bit more professional.

HiFi Corp should/will hack all Sansui products sold by them to be region free. Most of the time it is done before the player is packaged but they do miss some - just take it back and tell them the salesman (*"can't remember his name"*) promised you it is multiregion or not region locked.

I found it easier to google the net for the region hack then to actually take the unit back to the shop. I bought a Sansui from Hi-Fi corp a few years back and it was region free as promised, but now it says "No Disc" even with new original disks. I even bought one of those cleaning disks but it didn't help. That's why I decided to get the LG recorder. The Sansui is out of warranty and I don't know if it is repairable. And as for the region codes, I don't see the point. I don't think it stops piracy, and it's just an inconvenience for people that buy original disks as I would probably bet that pirated disks are not region specific (because of course I know nothing about copied disks...)

I recently bought a LG265 dvd player

And went to Setup menu, then Lock option, then pressed "0" several times, untill "congrats dvd is now REgion free" sign showed up.

it worked perfect and now able to play all regions.

however, 3 weeks later the dvd player was unable to record to the hard drive.

Do you think it was the region free Code that destroyed my dvd hard drive?

I have friends that Import DVD's, mostly Anime what they did was buy 2 DVD drives 1 that has been setup in Windows to whatever regoin [USA/UK/EU] and the other just kept the same for all the other DVD's we get here in SA

Kinda the most expensive solution out there...AnyDVD/DVDDecrypter would have avoided extra hardware.

1) AIM, DIAMOND, TEAC
2) SANYO, SANSUI,
5) JVC, TELEFUNKEN
3) SAMSUNG, LG, PIONEER, PANASONIC
4) SONY, TECHNICS, KENWOOD
5) YAMAHA, MARANTZ, HARMON KARDON

That's with 6 being the preference, and also product dependant (general)

In General,

I wouldn't generalise that like because some of those companies re-brand the innards. Sony, for example might be using a Pioneer one day or Matsh*ta the next.
