DVD signal without RCA connection

What is the best method to watch a DVD on a TV set which is far away from the player? There is a VCR in already installed.

plug the dvd into the vcr (via the rca inputs of the vcr) and tune the far away tv to the frequency that the vcr transmits on, put the vcr on the av chanel you pluged the rca's into and play your dvd.
it works did it for my inlaws but i have to ask yuo the same question i asked them why
