Hi there guys,

I'm not exactly sure if this is a hardware or software issue but when I copy over more

gigs then the "4.something" gigs of data a dvd can take my PC allows it to copy and then

just leaves what it can't add. It does this Instead of warning me that I'm trying to put too

much stuff on the DVD (which it used to do). I've changed several things in my PC since it

started happening so I'm not sure what it is:

  • I'm using different DVDs (I used to use EL DVD+R dvds, I'm now using EL DVD-R)
  • I reformatted someones hard-drive and added Windows 7 for him. The drive had a virus so I first cleaned it by putting it in my external HDD.
  • When I did that I also messed up the order of my sata ports on my motherboard so the DVD drive didn't work for a while

It's a LG DVD writer (not sure if that helps) and I'm hoping there's just a setting I have to change on my PC somewhere... oh and I'm using Windows 7 32bit.

Thanks

I would uninstall your burning software application, then re-install - or try and see if there is the option to "fix" or "repair" the installation from Control Panel -> Programs and Features

If you are using Nero, make sure you have the write capacity DVD selected. I'ts normally shown at the bottom-right of Nero's burn window.

Right now I'm using (what I think is) Windows 'default' burner. Where would I change the setting for it?

Otherwise...

I removed Nero a while ago because certain things about it worked on my nerves... can't exactly remember what but I'll put it back on if I can't fix this. Which version of Nero would you guys recommend? When I read up reviews about it a lotta people say that the older versions are better.

Agreed. Did you get an OEM version of Nero with your dvd device? Use that... old but it does the job!

I did and it's fine but I hate that it keeps 'suggesting' I get the full version or that I try other tools that I'm never going to need... though I might just be being picky:/

You can always try ImgBurn. It's lightweight, free and works well.

I'll try it out today.

I'm actually just glad it's not the DVDs I bought (it's a pack of 100) or my writer that's messed up

Thanks for the help guys:)
