I got my Samsung SH-S223Q DVD Writer 3 weeks ago and it has been working fine till now. But all of the sudden it doesn't read DVD's anymore. However it reads CD's perfectly. I've upgraded my firmware and I've put the SATA cable on another plug, nothing seems to work. Anyone got any ideas? PS. I'm running Vista Ultimate 32bit

Have you tried removing it from device manager and rebooting?

Yup, i've uninstalled it and reinstalled. do you think i should have uninstalled and first rebooted and let windows install it?

Sigh I've only ever had problems with Samsung, I got one recently in the hopes that the years since I've used one they've improved. They haven't.

My Benq is working flawlessly though.

Well, is it not a specific brand of DVD discs that's the problem? Try some other brands and see if you have the same issue.

it's my original copy of GTA IV that doesn't want to read. not even my NAG dvd's want to read

Get it changed for a new one.

Dont waste your time trying to fix samsung dvd drives...

+1 It is common knowledge for everyone down the street here that Samsung drives are gaga. Bunch of people had the same drives, all of them went the same way. Never a Samsung DVD Rom ever again. Other Samsung stuff are fine though. Excluding the Samsung VCR/DVD combo machine that also bit the dust. Correction, the freaking DVD Unit on the machine went

Agreed, maybe samsung products are taking a turn for the worst. My samsung tall boy home theater system is also giving me crap. :(

I have 2 Samsung WriteMasters and I've never, ever had any problems with either. They work like a charm.
