Somewhere far far away.
I have been having endless problems with copying any disc and just want to burn down my whole pc with napalm :(

I bought a Samsung 18x Lightscribe SATA drive July 2007, never copied to much still had plenty Hard Drive space left..

As my drives became closer to full after receiving some TV series from a friend. I noticed that basically every cd/dvd I copy has endless read errors
so I swithced on the verify option..

Basically all the discs I write have data verification errors and quite a few not just 1 or 2..

Stuff I tried allready:

1) Update Nero with newest versions.. (Nero 7 & 8)
2) Buy different brands discs: HP, Memorex, Verbatim, Sony even some cheaper brands.
3) Tried on all 4 SATA ports, new SATA cables
4) New DVD-Writer Asus 16x Lightscribe IDE with brand new IDE cables
5) Tried it with just 1 ddr2 memory at a time (1x1GB DDR2, 1x512 DDR2 ->667mhz) each on both slots. Even borrowed some memory from a friend's working PC..
6) Installed extra fans.. even between my hard drives.
7) Bought a new 160GB SATA HDD and transferred stuff from my (80GB and 40GB) to the new drive..
8) Got a copy of Sonic Digital Media Home..

I tried this on Windows Vista and with Windows XP..

No luck...
Any advice... Plzzzz.
I am planning on buying a Gigabyte P35-DS3L end of the month, but not even sure if that will help..

:confused::confused::confused:

what psu you running?

i find writing a dvd takes alot of juice.

also system resources, i cant do anything else when im writing. i have to watch it. and im running a dual core with 2 gigs mem.

try writing at a slower speed. and disconnect anything extra u have running on your psu.

first lesson with dvd writers is that if it fails writing - flash the units firmware. Make sure you follow the instructions to the T else you could damage teh unit. the process is fairly easy though.

Slow speed, firmware sound like good bets. Maybe also run a CPU and memory checker app, just to see that the system isn't screwing around with the data before it hits the dvd drive.

Damn, that is some problem solving with determination right there.:D

If installing a new DVD Writer as indicated in #4 didn't work, flashing the firmware of the Samsung won't work either.

Do you experience any I/O issues with other devices like your hard drives? Any read/write errors when using them?

If so, it sounds like your motherboard is on its way out... :(

Could also be Nero screwing you around. And there are plenty of cases I have seen that installing a Sonic product after Nero just screws things up further :p

Try burnaware free edition http://www.glorylogic.com/ CD\DVD burning app...pretty cool one at that..just does not support very many file types as yet. But it also works on Vista 64bit :)

If it doesn't work then you can be more suspect about hardware.

Maybe also do some research on CD/DVD filter drivers in your registry, its a long shot though. You will need to delete or modify those reg keys but it is also a dodge fix afaik. I think uninstalling / re-installing Nero does not delete these filter drivers sometimes and perhaps thats where the problem lies? I am not too clued up on how it all works though.

Downloading ASUS Firmware right now...
Mine is 1.13 the 1.14 Update says - Improved burning quality

Also downloaded burnaware will try at home.. Going to try that and get the samsung drive firmware at home tonight.

I got a 500W PSU so I don't think it should be a case of not enough power...
I am also suspecting maybe the M/board.. I don't think it's old driver problems because I tried it on bot Vista and XP after clean installs.. with newest m/b drivers..
Well I am still gonna get the Gigabyte P35-DS3L, because it's got 4 DDR2 slots, mine just got 2 at the moment.

By the way what's ur thoughts on that board.. as it supports my current CPU and a lot of newer ones 2..
I was one of the suckers that bought the PentiumD 945 3.4GHz Dual Core CPU just about 2months before the Core2Duo's came out...

Will upgrade my CPU later in the year..

Ok tried all the stuff u guys told me nothing worked...

Did however get the P35-DS3L over the weekend.. I am so happy now am I allmost finished a 25pack of blank DVD's to clear up some HDD space..

So I think I need to take that old motherboard to the gun range over the weekend for some R&R :D :D :D
