DVD writer with no region?

Yesterday I wanted to watch a DVD on my pc to try and see if I could get it to play on my dual monitor setup and I tried 3 DVD's non of which worked saying that they are the wrong region.

I check the region settings on my drive and it says No region selected, I try and set the region to 2 and I get an error saying that I need to insert a DVD with the region I want to set ( I left the region 2 DVD in the drive).

BTW - I have never changed my regions before.

DVD43 FTW on PC, hope it does help with making the discs watchable.

Thanks for the replies chaps, bizarrely enough this morning I thought I would try again and it now allowed me to set the region to 2. Weird. But anyway got DVD43 anyways.
